The night before last I met up with a couple of friends at a local Irish pub. We ordered our drinks, and the waitress looked at me and said, "Red flannel hash."
My reply was, "Yum, bacon." (It's the not-so-secret ingredient that makes the dish delish I've recently learned.)
Then we both said, "Rick and Ann's!"
It's a charming little place I frequent most weekends for breakfast, and she is a waitress there. I was flattered that not only did she recognize me, but that she remembered my favorite breakfast plate.
I wondered how the conversation sounded as an outsider.
"Red flannel hash."
"Yum, bacon."
"Rick and Ann's!"
Laughter.
I guess it probably sounded a little odd.

I speak "Rick and Ann's."
I don't. I only speak Zachary's.
Hmm. I'm bilingual.
Bacon. Yum.
