791. Oh my Desk!*

I am in Milan. It's 23.28 in the evening.

That's 11:28 p.m. for all you non-military hour people. Tsk! Military time is so much easier, is a crazy little thing called "the meteric system". We Italians are so much more advanced than the rest of you!

Seriously, non-military time is easier. As if you can confuse 5:00 in the morning with 5.00 in the evening. Granted, typing out 5:00 or 17:00 is easier (especially for me on an American keyboard layout--the damned ":" key is in the wrong space here!).

Yes, I'm in Milan waiting for the 00.25 train to Brescia. The train was late arriving here by 15 minutes (surprise--sadly, not really) and I missed the connecting train by 2 minutes.

What does a would-be Bond Girl do when forced to wait almost 2 hours for the next train? Why, she has red wine and pops in to the nearest internet point to complain via her blog.

Ok. I'm done complaining. The real blog post reason is that I heard a terrific number on my iPod on the train. "I am, I said" by Neil Diamond. I related to the lyrics...feeling a little homesick! So, it is my song of the day... er, evening.

Janelle Renee's Song of the Day

LA's fine, sunshine most of the time
The feeling is laid back
Palm trees grow and the rents are low
But you know I keep thinking about
Making my way back

Well, I'm New York City, born and raised
But nowadays, I'm lost between two shores
LA's fine, but it ain't home
New York's home but it ain't mine no more

I am, I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair
I am, I cried
I am, said I
And I am lost, and I can't even say why
Leavin' me lonely still

Did you ever read about a frog who dreamed of being a king
And then became one
Well, except for the names and a few other changes
If you talk about me, the story's the same one
But I got an emptiness deep inside
And I've tried but it won't let me go
And I'm not a man who likes to swear
But I've never cared for the sound of being alone

I am, I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair
I am, I cried
I am, said I
And I am lost, and I can't even say why
I am, I said
I am, I cried
