I just got off the phone with Jim. He left me a message. He stated that he was returning my call and wanted to talk about design. He left a local number. I racked my brain, and couldn't remember talking to or even calling a "Jim."
So, I gave his company (a software company, as it turns out) a call, and asked for his extension.
"Hello, this is Jim."
"Hi, Jim. This is Janelle."
"Oh, yes. Hi, Janelle!" he said with a tone of familiarity. "What kind of software do you use over there?"
"Did I call you? Before this call, did I call you?"
"No."
"Your message said that you were returning my call."
"No. I don't think so. So, what kind of software do you use?"
"Yes, you did, and I'm happy with my software."
"Well, what kind of software..."
I hung up on him before he could finish his sentence. Does this tactic--out and out lying--work? Why would I want to enter into a business relationship that is dishonest from the get-go? I wouldn't, and I don't.
Shame on them.

What software company was it?
MT: If he calls back, I'll tell him that you think so, too.
M: Hawkridge. I googled the phone number before I called.
Perhaps I was too hasty. I should've asked how he got my number.
DS: Sounds like somebody has a business idea! I'd put on some pants before pitching it to somebody.
