In these lots, it never fails: some people still insist on parking in the spot right next to my car. The SUV pictured below could've picked any of the two spaces to his right, or the 100 other EMPTY spaces behind my car.
Grrrr....
Earlier this year I spent a couple hundred dollars for removal of the dozen or so door dings my car sustained over the last 7 years of its life. It's been almost 5 months and my car has received 2 dings. (One of them was my doing. I opened my door into a base of a lamp post. Oops.) They are centrally located on the doors, one on each door, and they are of equal depth. They look like dimples. It's kinda cute.
Anyway, below is a picture I took that illustrates my amusing frustration. (I'm leaving the picture large, even though it is making a mess of my blog.)
I'm at a loss for an explanation. This isn't an isolated occurrence. It happens all the freakin' time!
Bizarre!
Why do people park next to a car whose owner obviously wants a space in the lot less travelled? What are your thoughts? Theories? Insights?

Maybe it's time to become one of those annoying people who park diagonally, taking up 2 spots.
Oh no. There's got to be a limit to how annoying a person can be, and I'm pretty sure I'm at that limit.
There is the "There's no way the dude/babe in the Porsche is going to ding my BMW" thought, which I admit having had once or twice in my BMW-owning days. Thinking such things makes lots less sense in a very empty lot, though...

Exactly.
Nice to see your lego avatar over here, Tom.
