253. Gifts.

I caught Cirque du Soleil's "O" on my last trip to Las Vegas. It was startlingly impressive, beautiful, and fun.

Seated immediately in front of us was an elderly couple dressed just shy of formal. As much as I enjoyed the show, and I did immensely, I enjoyed being seated behind that couple even more.

The audience's applause and laughter were accompanists to the already moving score, and the star performers--the older couple--gave me chills. Their authentic laughter and gasps (sounded when the acrobats performed daring feats) were like the special effects added for extra oomph during editing by a gifted director.

I was mesmerized by the show, don't get me wrong, but the sincerity and unadulterated joy emanating from my neighbors was hard to ignore. And I didn't want to.

I nearly did a standing ovation during the couple's last act. The husband turned to his wife, slapped his knee, and with jubilance said, "Ha! Ha! I don't remember the last time I had so much fun!" He then took his hand and wiped his eye.

Beautiful.

That makes me sad... in a good way.

Dude, that is so awesome. I love it when people are like that. I'd probably be like that....

Old people are the absolute best.

SG, who are you kidding, you are already old. :-)

Just kidding. O was amazing, and we had seats on the second row! When the red curtain whooshed up, it was f'ing unreal! I am one huge Cirque fan. I don't even want to tell you how many of their shows I've been to. Still haven't seen Zumanity yet, but I can't wait.
