231. Say that again?

W on the illegal wire tapping:

"The program's legal, it's designed to protect civil liberties, and it's necessary."

Let me get this straight: The "program", that is clearly violating civil liberties, was designed to protect civil liberties. Ergo, it isn't violating civil liberties. Clearly, design trumps product.

Actual conversation in the not-to-distant future:

Customer: I would like to return my keyboard. When I type little electrical shocks zap my fingers, and the sharp corners of the keys cut my fingers.

Keyboard Corporation (whose motto is: Designed with you in mind.): The keyboard was designed to be ergonomic and provide pain-free use. You can't possibly expect a refund or exchange! You're bleeding on our counter. We'll have to bill you for that.

Customer: Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize it was designed to be pain-free. I'll be on my way. Sorry for the trouble.
