223. Some people don't like being unpopular.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's annual state of California speech blew the socks off of the Left's feet yesterday. Most of us did a double take, and had to pinch ourselves to be sure we weren't dreaming.

He came across as a man who actually learned a lesson. He admitted that the special election was a mistake, and that he got the voter's message. I would faint if GWB ever admitted to personally making a mistake (instead of the blanket "mistakes were made") and show as much humility as Arnold.

Although my biggest beef, the death penalty, is still swinging on a hook in the meat locker, I have to say, yesterday's speech was a great speech to boast his ratings and optimism. Let's see if the speech is backed by action.

"... boast his ratings ..." Nice Freudian typo. Yeah, let's see if he does anything. Apologies are actually not that hard -- Bush notwithstanding -- and are a tried-and-true tactic for pols trying to rehabilitate themselves. E.g., Nixon's famous "Checkers" speech.

Wow. I have so much more respect for screw-ups when they admit to being so. I'm hoping for your sake, since you actually live there, that he's honest about it.

OM--I was going to correct my typo, but with your comment I think it works!

SG--I doubt his "honesty" will last long. Here's to hoping I'm wrong!
