Interesting Thought for the Day: - Gotta love the logic . If you consider that there have been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000. The rate in Washington D.C.(among others) is 80.6 per 100,000. That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.
Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington D.C.
What was I thinking? It's perfectly OK for our young men and women and countless Iraqi innocents to die in an illegal war, because Washington DC has a high crime rate!
I think Bush should use this logic to sway the other wackos. I know this logic certainly helped me see the light.

What a head trip... that email starts out like a provocative thought experiment to make a useful point about gun control when, at the last second, the driver gives a wild, spasmodic crank of the steering wheel to the right, driving off the road and into a sheer wall of stupidity. (Or have I pushed my metaphor too far?)
No, Oscar. Your metaphor is right on track.
Brad DeLong has a nice analysis of the problem with this future entry in the snopes.com urban legends database, which had been propagated without irony by the Stupidest F***ing Economist (if not Stupidest Man) Alive.
Thanks for the link, Tom. I had a feeling the e-mail was an example of How to Lie with Numbers.
